FRIENDSHIP UNITES US

with the 'Say Hello to the World' project

What actually is friendship and how is it formed?

Who am I? Who are we?

. . . We started to wonder and to explore.

We played various group games, draw and say what we like and what we do not, discovered which games we like to play, which stories are our favourite, we chose our best friend and gave him a gift, we’ve chosen the name for our group (The Stars), we played with our friends from kindergarten and then… we realized there are never too many friends and we decided to find some more.

How were we looking for new friends?

...With binoculars through the window and from the nearest hill, on a globe and a map, on the World Wide Web...

We wondered what are children elsewhere in the world like, how they dance, how they speak?

CHILDREN’S THOUGHTS of the WORLD and NEW FRIENDS

-You may find friends with police officers and dogs.

-We do not know if our friends are happy.

-If you want a friend from another country, you need to learn their language.

-To find friends, you need to go around the world by speed boat, by plane, by train or by car.

-First of all, we need to knock on their doors.

-And we need a map, not to get lost.

-We can also speak English:

-On a dance journey by train the children have met: "In Vienna, I’ve met Martin Krpan with his mare and Brdaus, and in Zidani Most I’ve met the Sun.".

-Other children also dance, sing and work out, "But our polka is very bouncy, which is not for me, because my feet hurt too much.”.

-And some are dressed in the same "skirts".

-In America and Africa there are black children.

-In China, they do not have the same eyes like us, they have slanted or narrower eyes, as if you pull your outer corners of your eyes outwards like this…

-We have to bring a map, because we are going around the world.

-With binoculars, we could see our friends in Lithuania up close, if we took a good look from outside, from the hill.

-Comment on the dance ‘Journey by train’: “Come on Tony, connect your carriage!”.

HOORAY we have found friends!

Our effort was not in vain and we found friends from Lithuania.

As a token of good friendship, we sent them a gift to get to know us better. Then we tracked the package on the website of The Post of Slovenia and found the locations of the package on a map.

And now we are preparing for our first video meeting via Skype-

(We are learning an English song and can already say a few words, we are dancing different dances, we are looking for similarities between our friends and us, we talk to our friends from kindergarten via Skype, etc.)

Some of the highlights from our trip "with your finger across the map", when we were looking for new friends, are attached.
